ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's tennis team will take part in the 2011 Big South Conference championships on Thursday when the fifth-seeded Bulldogs take on the fourth-seeded Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs. Thursday's match will take place at the Winthrop Tennis Complex and will start at 10 a.m.
Asheville (9-10) hopes to play better than it did the last time it placed Gardner-Webb. The Runnin' Bulldogs whipped Asheville, 6-1 in Boiling Springs on March 23.
"We didn't play very well against Gardner-Webb in March and hopefully we can play better on Thursday," commented Asheville coach Lise Gregory. "Gardner-Webb has a strong team this season. We've made good progress this year and hopefully we can carry that improvement into the conference tournament.
The Bulldogs have been extremely competitive in their matches this year. Three of Asheville's 10 losses have been by a 4-3 scores. Adrien Langeard leads the Bulldogs this year with a 12-4 record in singles. He's teamed up with Thomas Rees to post a 14-4 record in doubles.
