CHARLESTON, S.C. -The UNC Asheville men's tennis team heads to the coast of South Carolina for two matches this weekend, including a crucial Big South Conference match on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (9-6, 2-0 BSC) play a non-conference match at College of Charleston this afternoon before traveling to Coastal Carolina on Saturday for a first-place showdown with the Chanticleers (10-3, 2-1 BSC).
Asheville picked up a huge league victory on Sunday when the Bulldogs blitzed Winthrop 6-1 at the Asheville Racquet Club downtown. It was Asheville's first win over the Eagles since the 1998 season.
"We're just trying to take one match at a time," commented Bulldog coach Lise Gregory. "We want to get better with each match and play our best tennis at the end of the season when we host the Big South Tournament."
Jonas Brobeck and Adrian Langeard lead the Bulldogs in singles action as they both have 10-5 records. Langeard plays #1 singles, while Brobeck is at #3.
Asheville has enjoyed solid play from all of its doubles team this year. Matt Waissen and Brobeck have teamed up to go 11-4 at #1 flight, while Thomas Rees and Langeard are 10-4 at #2.
"We need to stay healthy," declared Gregory. "I really like the way this team has learned to compete in matches. We've won a lot of three-set matches throughout the year and those are matches we've lost in the past few seasons."
