ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's tennis team has been picked to finish in seventh place in the Big South Conference preseason poll.
Radford, the reigning Big South Champion, was selected first for the second year in a row. Campbell and Coastal Carolina both garnered 62 points for second, with Coastal Carolina receiving one first-place bid. Liberty and Winthrop both earned first-place nods and 46 points to tie for fourth. Presbyterian College, last year's Tournament Runner-up, placed sixth with 45 points, just ahead of UNC Asheville and Gardner-Webb, who were voted seventh and eighth with 34 points and 20 points, respectively. New Big South member Longwood rounded out the list with 13 points.
The Bulldogs finished in second place last season with a 5-2 league mark. It was the highest finish ever for the Asheville men's program. Asheville enjoyed a 12-10 overall record in 2012 with impressive non-conference wins over Furman and Wofford.
"We're not worried about where we're picked," commented 2012 Big South Conference Coach of the Year Lise Gregory. "We graduated some good players from last year's club but have a solid team back. I thought we had a pretty good fall season and hope that translates to the spring."
Asheville opens the 2013 season at Wofford on Feb. 4 before playing its home opener against Augusta State on Feb. 5 at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown location starting at Noon.
