ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's tennis team opens the 2013 season with a road match at Wofford Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m.

The Bulldogs are coming a successful season in 2012 as Asheville had a 12-10 overall record and finished in second place in the Big South Conference. It was the program's highest finish ever in the regular season.

The Blue & White hope to be even better this season. Asheville returns six letterwinners from last year's club, including talented seniors Pete Conaty, Adrien Langeard, Ryan Matthews and Matt Waissen plus sophomores Will Goldberg and John Schubel. Daniel Kripak and Brett Landau are freshmen who could help immediately. Both enjoyed excellent fall seasons.

"We really have a nice nucleus this season," said Asheville assistant coach Tom Hand. "I think our guys have some great experience over the past few years and are ready to make a run in conference this season. As always, we'll need to stay from injuries but our depth is as good as I've ever seen it here at UNC Asheville."

The Bulldogs have their first home matches this weekend when they host Appalachian State on Saturday (Feb. 9) and Mars Hill on Sunday (Feb. 10). Both matches will be at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown location. Each match starts at 3 p.m. and admission is free.
