ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s tennis team improved to 5-1 on the young season with a 6-1 victory over Augusta State Tuesday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.


The Bulldogs won two doubles matches and then took five singles matches to continue their best start in more than 10 years.


Asheville picked up the doubles point with two convincing victories. Zoe Hamel and Ericka Rivero won at #1 flight over Aida Castany and Gisela Font, 8-1. Emily McNall and Lauren Brooker won at #3 flight, 8-2 over Maria C. Pimental and Maria Nadal.


In singles action, the Bulldogs quickly took charge and won all five matches in straight sets. Zoe Hamel, Ericka Rivero, Christine Boissevain, Emily McNall and Lauren Booker all won for the Blue & White.


Asheville is back in action Friday afternoon at the ARC when the Bulldogs host Nicholls State for the first time ever.
