ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville senior women’s tennis player Zoe’ Hamel is one of 10 student-athletes named to the Capital One Academic All-District 3 Women’s At Large Division I team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

She graduated on Saturday with degrees in mathematics and economics. Hamel was awarded the school’s top academic award when she received the 2014 Manly E. Wright Award by the Honors and Degree Programs Committee.  She graduated with a GPA of 3.99.

Hamel was a four-year letterwinner for the Bulldogs and played at #1 flight in both singles and doubles her sophomore, junior and senior years. She was a two-time member of the Big South All-Academic team for women’s tennis.

Hamel was granted a fellowship by the University of Vancouver in math and will continue her education in September.

CoSIDA's 1800 members in the United States and Canada nominate players for Capital One Academic All-America® recognition.  To be eligible, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in academic standing, have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average, and be a starter or key reserve on his or her team.

CoSIDA members vote on the all-district teams; then a national panel selects the Academic All-America squads from all first-team all-district choices.  District 3 includes all NCAA Division I schools in North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
