ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's tennis team received public recognition from the NCAA for top academic performance for their multi-year Academic Progress Rate scores, the NCAA announced on Tuesday.

The most recent APRs are based on scores from the 2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10 academic years.  These awards are given annually to teams scoring in the top 10 percent in each sport with their APR.

The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.

Top-performing teams this year posted APR scores ranging from 977 to a perfect 1,000. The number of teams in some sports may exceed 10 percent depending on the number of perfect scores.

The women's tennis team, under the direction of head coach Lise Gregory, has received the received the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team Award for three straight years. The award is given for a team GPA of 3.2 or higher.
