ROCK HILL, S.C. - The UNC Asheville women's tennis team battled hard but fell just short in trying to upset Campbell in the quarterfinals of the Big South Conference Championships at the Winthrop Tennis Center Thursday evening.


The third-seededLady Camels won the doubles point and won two three-set singles match to slip past the sixth-seeded Bulldogs 4-3. 


Asheville ends its season with a 12-10 record, it's best season since the 2010 campaign.


The Bulldogs got a win at #3 doubles as Amryn Solider and Gillian Lewis as they defeated Ewa Telenga and Lourdes Ros, 8-2. But Campbell won at #1 and #2 doubles to grab a 1-0 lead.


In singles play, Soldier won at #4 singles as she roared past Natasha Afridi, 6-2, 6-3. Christine Boissevan won at #5 for the Bulldogs as she downed Telenga, 6-0, 6-4.


Freshman Ericka Rivero rallied to tie the match at 3-3 with a comeback win at #3 singles. She lost the first set to Ana Marie Ortiz, 4-6 but stepped up in the next two sets to win, 6-3, 6-2.


But Campbell was able to get three-set wins at #1 and #6 singles to pull out the victory.


Despite the tough loss, the future is quite bright for the Bulldog program as everyone in Asheville's line-up returns next season.
