ELON, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s tennis team opened up their fall season with some solid doubles results this weekend at the Elon Fall Tournament.
Three different doubles team posted 2-1 records over the weekend. In the A-1 doubles bracket, Zoe Hamel and Ericka Rivero finished in fifth place as they bounced back from an opening loss on Friday to pick up wins on Saturday and Sunday over teams from Western Carolina and USC Upstate.
In the B-1 bracket, Amryn Soldier-Gillian Lewis also finished in fifth place. They lost their first match on Friday but picked up victories over doubles teams from UNC Greensboro and Western Carolina.
In the B-2 bracket, Lauren Brooker and Hunter Hall went 2-1 to finish in third place. They knocked off a doubles team from WCU, 8-6 to claim third place.
Zoe Hamel and Ericka Rivero went 2-1 in the A-1 flight as they lost their first match on Friday but easily won matches on Saturday and Sunday to finish in fifth place.
Amryn Soldier and Gillian Lewis also went 2-1 in the B-1 flight as they lost their first match but took out teams from UNC Greensboro and Western Carolina to claim fifth place.
Brooker had a singles highlight for Asheville as she went 2-1 and finished in fifth place in the B-1 flight. She had an impressive opening-round win over Camile Amrainin of Winthrop, 6-2, 6-4.
Caroline Shearer also went 2-1 and finished in a tie for fifth place in the B-1 flight with Brooker.
Senior Zoe Hamel went 2-2 and reached the consolation finals of the A-1 singles flight.
