ROCK HILL, S.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s tennis team opens up play in the 2013 Big South Conference championships Thursday afternoon at the Winthrop Tennis Center against Campbell starting at 3:30 p.m.

Asheville is seeded sixth in the tournament and brings a 12-9 worksheet into Thursday’s action. Campbell is the third seed in the tournament and has posted an 8-12 overall record. CU went 6-3 in Big South Conference action, while the Bulldogs went 4-5 in league play. The teams met in Buies Creek on March 29 with Campbell edging Asheville 4-3.

No matter what happens in the tournament, the Bulldogs have enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2013. Asheville’s 12 wins this year is the same amount of wins it has the previous two injury-filled seasons. The Bulldogs are enjoying their first winning season since the 2010 campaign.

And everyone returns for Asheville next season. Freshman Ericka Rivero has been a real bright spot for the Blue & White this year. She has a 15-6 overall record in singles play this season.
