ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's tennis team will begin its fall season by hosting the Bulldog Invitational at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown starting Friday at 9 a.m.

The tournament will last from Friday through Sunday and will include Presbyterian College, Queens College, Milligan and West Virginia State. Admission for the tournament is free, and the public is invited.

"We're looking forward to playing some opponents this weekend," commented Bulldog coach Lise Gregory. "I'm really pleased at how well our team has come back from the summer break. We're in shape and ready to go."

The Bulldogs return six letterwinners from last year's club and are anxious to improve on last season's injury-riddled season.

"Injuries really slowed us down in 2011," declared Gregory. "A lot of our young players had to play at some higher flights than we had envisioned. However, we earned some valuable experience that will help us this year and beyond."

Asheville has no seniors on this year's roster. They'll be led by junior Zoe Hamel, who got hurt midway through last season and had to miss the rest of the year. Also returning is junior Amie Cloer plus sophomores Christine Boissevain, Jenna Dodge, Emily McNall and Armyn Soldier. Freshman Gillian Lewis is from Austin, Texas, rounds out this year's team.
