ASHEVILLE, N.C. -The UNC Asheville women's tennis team is back on the road Wednesday when the Bulldogs travel to Gardner-Webb for a Big South Conference match starting at 2 p.m.
Asheville (7-5, 1-1 BSC) won its first league match since the 2010 season when the Bulldogs edged Longwood on the road last week, 4-3.
Gardner-Webb is 4-6 on the season with a 0-2 worksheet in league play.
The Bulldogs are one of the youngest teams in the nation this year as there are no seniors on this year's roster. Junior Zoe Hamel is playing #1 for Asheville and has posted a 5-7 record in singles.
The rest of Asheville's line-up is made up of freshmen and sophomores. Youth has been served as these young Bulldogs have played well for the Blue & White. Asheville already has one more win (7) than it did all of last season (6). The Bulldogs have won three straight 4-3 matches to help get them a winning record so far this year.
Freshman Ericka Rivero is 8-4 in singles action, followed by a 7-5 singles mark from rookie Gillian Lewis. Sophomore Amryn Solider has been quite consistent in singles play with an 8-4 mark.
In doubles action, Lewis and Solider have been very good with a 9-3 record at #3 flight.
Asheville returns home this weekend for some key league matches. League-leader Charleston Southern comes to the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown for a Sunday match starting at 1 p.m. before hosting Radford on Monday at 2 p.m.
