ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s tennis team opened up Big South Conference play with an impressive 7-0 victory over Longwood Sunday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.


The Bulldogs (6-2, 1-0 BSC) won three hard-fought doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead.


In singles play, Asheville was dominant. The Bulldogs won all six matches in straight sets. Gillian Lewis won a tie-breaker in the first set to win 7-6 and then won the second set, 6-4 to win at #5 flight. Emily McNall won 6-0, 6-0 at #6 flight to remain perfect on the season at 7-0. She had not a singles or doubles match this season.


Asheville is home on Tuesday when the Bulldogs welcome Central Florida to the ARC starting at 1 p.m.
