Asheville (19-22) picked up two wins this weekend and won the series from Big South kingpin Liberty at Greenwood Field. The Bulldogs won the first two games of the series, 7-6 in 13 innings and 2-0 on Saturday before falling to the Flames 16-6 on Sunday.
Today's game will be the final one for the Diamond Dogs for 10 days as they'll take some time off for exams. Asheville returns to action on Friday, May 4th when the Bulldogs begin a three-game Big South Conference series at High Point.
The men of Tom Smith hope to even the season series with the Terriers this afternoon. Wofford edged Asheville 4-3 on March 28 in Spartanburg. The Terriers are coached by UNC Asheville graduate Todd Interdonato.
"We did a good job getting two wins this weekend against Liberty," commented Smith. "It would be nice to win today against Wofford and have some momentum going into exams."
The Bulldogs top three hitters going into Tuesday's action are all freshmen. Aaron Wright leads Asheville with a .333 average, followed by Hunter Bryant with a .318 mark. Thomas Bess had a .303 mark and is tied for the team lead in stolen bases with nine.
UNC Asheville is 12-7 at home this year.
The Bulldogs have 19 wins this season, the most by an Asheville program since the 2008 season when they won 24 contests.
Asheville is 5-5 in one-run games and 4-3 in two-run games. The Bulldogs are 3-2 in extra inning games.
Ryan Dull was named Big South Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
Asheville won its first game of the year on Saturday when it scored less than three runs. The Bulldogs had been 0-13 when scoring three or less runs prior to Saturday as Asheville won 2-0 behind the pitching of Dull.
Asheville is 11-2 when it homers in a game.
Asheville is 13-0 when leading after eight innings but 0-18 when trailing after eight.
Cody Buch has a four-game hitting streak entering today's game and nine-game streak of getting on base.
The Bulldogs have hit 17 home runs this season compared to just 16 all of last season. Billy Creighton and Patrick Koontz lead the Asheville attack with five home runs each.
