BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The UNC Asheville volleyball team picked up its third victory in the last four matches with a 3-0 Big South Conference win over Campbell Saturday afternoon at Gore Arena. The Bulldogs won the match, 25-22, 25-22, 25-19.


Asheville (9-17, 5-5 BSC) was led by Meredith Foster and Anna Moore with 13 kills each. Holly Shelton posted a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Christine Lakatos had an excellent match with 10 kills and hit .450 for the match. Rachel Wells sparked the defense with 18 digs.


The teams began the match locked neck and neck through the first 10 points, but the Bulldogs opened a 3-0 rally to take an 8-5 lead. Campbell's response was quick as the Camels took a 10-9 lead.


From there, neither side was able to take a decisive lead until consecutive kills by Coats and Zuber and a block by Marek forced an Asheville timeout as the Bulldogs trailed, 16-13.


That was the final rally of the frame for the Camels as Asheville closed out the frame on an 8-3 run to secure a 25-22 set win. The offense was effective for Campbell as it posted 14 kills with one mistake, but the Bulldogs tallied a decisive 21 kills.


In the second set, Asheville went on a 5-0 run midway through the set to grab a 20-16 lead. The Bulldogs held off several CU charges to go up 2-0 with a 25-22 win.


In the third set, the Camels led 13-10 as the Bulldogs had to rally for most the set. Tied at 17-17, Asheville took advantage of Campbell hitting errors and some clutch kills from Foster to close out the match.


The Bulldogs are home next weekend for their final two home matches of the season. Asheville hosts Presbyterian College Friday at 7 p.m., followed by a match with Winthrop at Justice Center on Saturday at 2 p.m.
