CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team fell to UT-Martin 3-1 in the Bulldogs second match of the Country Inn & Suites Invitational Friday evening. UTM won the match, 18-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-18.
The Bulldogs (4-2) had just played a marathon match with Tennessee and lost in four sets before having to play the Skyhawks (5-1). Martin had beaten Charlotte in three sets earlier in the day.
Anna Moore sparked the Asheville offense with 10 kills and eight blocks. Christine Lakatos finished with 11 kills and 13 digs. Rachel Well sparked the defense with 16 digs. Katie Davis contributed 36 assists and 13 digs. Catherine Fischer had nine kills and hit .471 for the match.
The key set was the third. The teams had split the first two sets. Asheville fought back from a 14-10 deficit with five straight points to grab a 15-14 lead. Asheville led 21-20 but the Skyhawks outscored the Bulldogs 5-1 from there to seize control of the match.
Asheville finishes the tournament with two matches on Saturday. The Bulldogs battle Charlotte at Noon and host Chattanooga a t 8 p.m.
