WILMINGTON, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball picked up a pair of wins on Saturday, earning a 3-1 victory over Mercer followed by a 3-0 decision over North Carolina A&T at the 2013 Hilton Garden Inn Mayfaire UNCW Volleyball Classic on the campus of the Seahawks.

With the two wins the Bulldogs improve to 7-4 on the season, going 2-1 at the event.

In the first match of the day sophomore outside hitter Christine Lakatos posted a team-best 15 kills against Mercer, while senior middle blocker Anna Moore tallied 13 kills for the Blue & White. Sophomore setter Katie Davis recorded 44 assists directing the Asheville attack, while Bryn Pfeiffer finished one digs shy of tying her career high, posting 17 in the match.

Moore was dangerous on the serve as well, earning three service aces against the Bears.

Molly Locke led the Mercer attack with 14 kills, while fellow Bear Caroline Carlton tallied 13. Carly Iannarino earned 42 assists while Locke led all players with 22 digs in the contest.

The Bulldogs took the match 25-19, 25-17, 19-15, 25-17.

Lakatos and Moore led the way once again for the Bulldogs against NC A&T, with Lakatos posting 14 and Moore posting 13. Davis added 36 assists to her season total, while Rachel Wells tallied 15 digs on defense.

NC A&T’s Aleena McDaniel had 12 kills in the contest, with Jillian Nobles recording eight for the Aggies of A&T.

Asheville won by a final of 25-15, 25-19, 25-16.

The Bulldogs will head to Charleston, S.C., to take part in the College of Charleston Invitational next weekend in their next outing. Asheville will take on Ball State on Friday at 4:30 p.m., before taking on Alabama A&M at Noon and then host CofC at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
