Asheville Makes It Seven In A Row With Victory Over Gardner-Webb
The Bulldogs, playing shorthanded due to injury, found themselves down 20-16 late into the first set before finishing the frame on a 9-3 run to earn a 1-0 match lead. In the second set the two teams traded points back and forth until Asheville was able pull away for a 25-16 victory. After the intermission the Blue & White built an early lead but had to defend against a late GWU rally to win the set 25-19 and the match 3-0.
“We started out a little bit slow in the first set playing with a different lineup but once we settled down we took control of the match,” said Asheville head coach Julie Torbett. “It was a solid win for us and now we can finish no lower than third in the conference.”
The Bulldogs are now 19-10 overall with an 11-4 mark in the Big South, one game behind second-place High Point which sits at 12-3 in league play. Gardner-Webb drops to 5-24 on the season and are now 0-14 in the conference.
