CLINTON, S.C. – Down 2-0 after the first two sets of their match with Presbyterian College on Friday evening the UNC Asheville volleyball team rallied for three consecutive wins to earn a 26-28, 24-26, 25-20, 25-23, 15-8 victory over the home-standing Blue Hose, in Big South Conference action at the Templeton Center.

“It was an awesome comeback by our team,” said Asheville head coach Frederico Santos. “We stayed in the match, stayed the course and won the match. I give full credit to our players, they fought hard for every point and got the win.”

Senior Rachel Wells and sophomore Christine Lakatos both set career highs in the match, with Wells posting 42 digs from the libero position and Lakatos tallying 26 kills on offense. This marks the third match in a row that Wells has set or tied her career high for digs.

Setter Katie Davis finished two assists shy of her career best with 52 on the evening while senior middle blocker Meredith Foster recorded a match-high six blocks (one solo).

Senior middle Blocker Anna Moore chipped in 13 kills to the Bulldogs’ total, with Davis and Shelby Erickson tallying 10 kills apiece.

PC’s Rachel Hall led all Blue Hose with 18 kills, with Lena Gavin earning 12 and Halle Tripp earning 11. Andrea Barman and Kelly Berryman each posted 10 kills to the Presbyterian total, while libero Mary Trimpe recorded 34 digs defensively on the night.

Blue Hose setter Ashtin Frank also recorded 52 assists in the match while also recording 13 digs.

With the victory the Bulldogs improve to 17-10 overall with a 7-4 record in Big South play. PC drops to 8-20 on the year and 6-6 in conference matches. Asheville also sweeps the season series with the Blue Hose, having defeated PC 3-0 at the Justice Center on Oct. 12.

The Blue & White will play in their final regular season road match tomorrow at 1 p.m., as they take on Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C. The Bulldogs earned a 3-1 victory over the Lady Eagles on Oct. 11 at home earlier this season.
