LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Bulldogs of UNC Asheville fell to Big South Conference foe Liberty on Saturday afternoon at the Vines Center, as the Flames earned a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-15) victory over the Blue & White.


With the victory Liberty improves to 2-14 on the season, with a 1-2 mark in the Big South. Asheville drops to 10-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Bulldogs last victory at Liberty came during the 2009 season.


The Bulldogs couldn’t get their offense on track, hitting for a .017 clip on the evening. Freshman Madison Vaughn led the Blue & White in kills seven in the contest. Rachel Wells continued her strong play this season, posting 18 digs on defense.


Liberty tallied 12.0 total blocks on the afternoon in defense of Asheville, which did not post a block in the match.


Lillie Happel led all players with 12 kills in the contest, with fellow Flame adding 10 to Liberty’s total. Nzea McQuitery was a force at the net, tallying seven total blocks (one solo).


Jade Craycraft recorded 24 assists directing the Liberty offense, while libero Allie Reynolds posted a team-high 15 digs on defense.


The Bulldogs will be back in action next weekend when they take on league opponents Winthrop and Presbyterian College. Asheville will host the Eagles at 7 p.m. on Friday evening at Justice Center before welcoming the Blue Hose to the mountains for a match set for 4 p.m.
