CHARLOTTE, N.C. – High Point outside hitter Kristin Heldt (Frankfort, Ill.) and UNC Asheville middle blocker Anna Moore (Raleigh, N.C.) have been named the Choice Hotels Big South Volleyball Co-Players of the Week, while Gardner-Webb libero Anna Pashkova (Iowa City, Iowa) has been chosen as the Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Gardner-Webb outside hitter Brianna Starr (Blue Springs, Mo.) has been selected as the Crons Brand Freshman of the Week, the League announced today.
Heldt led High Point with 37 kills, 4.62 kills per set, a .314 hitting percentage, 21 digs, 2.62 digs per set, 5.0 points per set, four blocks and two double-doubles last week. She registered 22 kills, 11 digs and three blocks in the first match of the week against League-leading Radford. Heldt followed with 15 kills and a hitting percentage of .433 to go along with 10 digs in a sweep of Liberty.
Moore helped Asheville to a 2-0 record last week with 25 kills, 3.57 kills per set, a .364 hitting percentage, 5.0 points per set, 10 blocks, six digs and five service aces. Moore began the week with 12 kills, six blocks, three digs and two service aces in a four-set victory over Winthrop. Against Presbyterian College, which entered the weekend undefeated in Conference play, she picked up 13 kills, a hitting percentage of .684, four blocks, three digs and three service aces. This marks the second time this season Moore has been awarded Player of the Week.
Pashkova helped lead Gardner-Webb to a 2-1 record last week with 77 digs and 7.0 digs per set. She posted 17 digs in GWU’s sweep of Davidson to start the week. In her next outing, Pashkova tallied 38 digs – the second highest total in the Conference this season – in a five-set win against Presbyterian College. In the last match of the week, she registered 22 digs against Winthrop. The award is the second of the season for Pashkova.
Starr recorded 41 kills, 3.73 kills per set, 33 digs, 3.0 digs per set and two blocks last week for Gardner-Webb. Against Davidson, Starr picked up a double-double with 16 kills and 13 digs while hitting .343 and adding two blocks. She earned her second consecutive double-double with 12 kills and 14 digs in the Runnin’ Bulldogs’ win over PC, and capped off the week with 13 kills and six digs against Winthrop.
