ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville placed three players in double figures in kills as the Bulldogs knocked off Big South rival High Point, 3-1 at Justice Center Friday night. The scores were 25-20, 25-23, 14-25, 25-19.

Asheville (14-10, 6-4 BSC) was led by Cindi Miller as she recorded 13 kills and 15 digs. Kelsey Benorden finished with a double-double as she contributed 11 kills and 10 digs. Freshman Meredith Foster had a great match for the home team with 11 kills in 21 attempts. She hit .524 and added three blocks.

The Panthers (14-12, 9-3 BSC) were led by a game-high 20 kills from Megan Smith. Stephanie Wallin and Audie Gonzalez added 11 kills each. Gonzalez had 18 digs and two blocks. Julie Hershkowitz had a game-high 30 digs and added two service aces.

"Our middles did a great job tonight a very good High Point team," declared Asheville coach Julie Torbett. "I thought our defense was tremendous the entire evening. We got a wonderful team effort. This is a huge win for us this year."

The Panthers beat the Bulldogs earlier this year in three sets back on Oct. 2 at High Point.

Asheville got a career-high 21 digs from freshman Rachel Wells and 17 digs from Alex Stewart. Setter Hallie Morse had 20 assists and two blocks. Senior setter Rachel Guinane had 19 assists and two blocks.

In the first set, the Bulldogs took advantage of 11 High Point hitting errors to win 25-20. Asheville went on a 7-1 run to grab an 11-6 lead and extended the lead to 19-13 on a kill from Miller. The Panthers crept back and got to 23-19 on a kill from Smith. But a kill from Benorden and High Point's 11th attack error gave Asheville the first set.

The Panthers raced to a 10-5 lead early in the second set behind three kills from Wallin. But the Bulldogs rallied to go a 9-2 run to take a 14-12 advantage. Foster led the charge with three straight kills. Jenna Dover finished it with two kills.

High Point rallied back to lead 18-7 before the Bulldogs got kills from three different players to push ahead 20-18. Asheville pushed the margin to 24-20 as Miller posted a kill and a block with Foster. The Panthers roared back and got to 24-23 but Miller got a kill to close out the set and give Asheville a 2-0 lead.

The third set was all High Point. The Panthers scored the first three points and were never threatened as they won 25-14. Anna Lott had all five of her kills in the set, while Smith chipped in five.

The Bulldogs took charge of the fourth set early. Asheville scored the first three points as the home team got three service aces to build a 9-2 lead. Three kills from Benorden build the lead to 19-10.

The visitors would rally and creep back into the set. Two blocks from Maddie Simpson would close the gap to 22-18. But Miller and Benorden would get kills around an Asheville error to get the Bulldogs to match point at 24-19. An attack error by the Panthers would give the Bulldogs the victory.
