"EXPECTATIONS"

Expectations are a funny thing. Once you form them, they have the power to profoundly shape your mindset, but there's a fine line one must walk. Expect too much, and you'll set yourself up to fail. Expect too little, and you'll never really accomplish anything.

Overcoming someone else's expectations always feel like a victory in and of itself. We love to prove people wrong. It's incredibly motivating. The Big South Conference picked our team to finish in fifth place this year. Those were their expectations. Tuesday night, we locked in third place with a win over Gardner-Webb. Last year, we were picked to finish third; we finished first. Exceeding expectations is one of our favorite traditions. One we plan on keeping. I expect to win the conference. Is that too much? No, it's just a challenge. If it wasn't hard, anyone could win a championship. It's supposed to be hard; the hard is what makes it great.

Ralph Marston once said, "Don't lower your expectations to meet your performance. Raise your level of performance to meet your expectations. Expect the best of yourself, and then do what is necessary to make it a reality."
