CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville volleyball team fell to Kennesaw State 3-0 in their final match at the 2012 Hilton University 49er Classic on Saturday afternoon, falling 25-18, 25-22, 25-13 to the Owls.
With the loss the Bulldogs fall to 4-12 on the year while KSU improves to 10-4.
Freshman outside hitter Christine Lakatos led the Bulldogs offensively with 10 kills in the match, with Holly Shelton chipping in eight to Asheville's total. Freshman setter Katie Davis tallied 28 assists, with Anna Moore throwing in four blocks for the Bulldogs.
Moore was named to the 49er Invitational All-Tournament team for her efforts on the weekend.
Turea Jones led the Owls in kills with 12, while hitting for a .375 average against the Blue & White. Setter Sara Metroka tallied 38 assists in directing the KSU offense, which hit for a .316 clip as a team. Metroka also recorded four service aces in the match.
The Bulldogs will open up Big South Conference play in their next match, when they travel to Boiling Springs, N.C., to take on league foe Gardner-Webb next Friday, Sept. 21. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
