Asheville and Gardner-Webb played demanding non-conference schedules prior to league play. Both teams enter Friday's match with a 4-12 record. Second-year coach Frederico Santos is impressed with the Runnin' Bulldogs.

"Gardner-Webb played a tough non-conference schedule, but played a lot of those teams pretty close," admitted Santos. "We're going to have to play very well tonight to have a chance at winning."

The teams played three times last year with Asheville winning two five-set matches. Gardner-Webb won at home in three sets.

Asheville looks to snap a four-game losing streak on Friday. The Bulldogs lost all three matches they played last weekend at Charlotte.

"We had some good moments in all of those matches this past weekend, but we just need to put it together for an entire match," declared Santos. "We're a young team and are showing some signs of being a good team."

Senior Holly Shelton leads Asheville in kills with a 2.93 per set average. Junior Anna Moore is next at 2.44. She tops the club in blocks with a 1.02 mark. Moore made the All-Tournament team at Charlotte last weekend.

Junior Alex Stewart leads the Bulldog defense in digs with a 3.15 average. Freshman setter Katie Davis has an assist average of 8.33 per set. She also leads the club in service aces with 15.

The Bulldogs will be home next weekend when they host Radford (Sept. 28) at 7 p.m. and Liberty on Sunday (Sept. 29) at 6 p.m.
