ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Junior volleyball player Rachel Wells is this week's winner of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Athlete of the Week at UNC Asheville.

Each week the school selects a BCBSNC Athlete of the Week upon their performance from the previous week's action. This is the first time this year that Wells has been selected.

Wells anchored UNC Asheville’s back row last week, helping lead the Bulldogs to a 2-0 record on the week. She recorded 58 digs and averaged 6.44 digs per set.  In the win against Charleston Southern, she posted a career-high 35 digs.

Wells then tallied another 23 digs in a five-set victory over Big South Conference foe Coastal Carolina.

The Bulldogs will hit the road to take on conference opponents High Point and Campbell this weekend.
