CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UNC Asheville middle blocker Anna Moore (Raleigh, N.C.) has been named the Choice Hotels Big South Volleyball Player of the Week, while Radford outside hitter Jordan Watson (Pilot, Va.) has been selected as the Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for matches played during the opening weekend of the season. In addition, Campbell libero Mary Crema (Loveland, Ohio) is the Defensive Player of the Week.
Moore opened up the season putting down 36 kills while hitting .337 at the Western Carolina Invitational. She also tallied 14 digs, 12 blocks and four service aces en route to being named tournament MVP while leading Asheville to a 3-0 record. In the season-opening win against Wright State, Moore posted a weekend-high of 13 kills plus three digs and three blocks. In her next game against Boston College, she recorded six blocks to go along with 12 kills and a .414 hitting percentage to lead the Bulldogs to their second-ever win over an ACC opponent. Moore wrapped up the weekend with 11 kills against Western Carolina, with six digs and three blocks in the 3-0 win.
Watson opened up her collegiate career with three kills, two digs and one block in Radford’s 3-0 victory over North Carolina A&T. She then put down eight kills, four digs and four blocks in a five-set contest against Eastern Kentucky. In the tournament finale win over Kennesaw State, Watson tallied 15 kills and hit .353. She also added five blocks.
Crema registered 75 digs and a 5.77 digs per set average over the weekend to earn All-Tournament honors at the William & Mary Invitational, while Campbell picked up two five-set victories. She posted 15 digs in the Camels’ season opener against Northern Arizona, and followed with 29 digs against William & Mary. In the last game of the tournament, Crema tallied 31 digs in the win over San Jose State.
