TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—UNC Asheville starter Taylor Wohlwend threw 6.2 shutout innings but the Bulldog bullpen could not hold a 5-0 lead as No. 9 ranked Florida State scored 10 runs in the eighth inning for a 10-5 victory on Wednesday night.
Kevin Mattison hit his third home run of the year with one out in the first inning and Reed Kreiser led off the fourth inning with a home run to put the Bulldogs (4-6) up 2-0.
A walk, a FSU error, and single by Danny Baatz loaded the bases for Asheville in the sixth. Brett Robinson drew a walk to force a run home and Kevin Weidenbacher had an RBI single that made the score 4-0 Dogs.
Weidenbacher who went 3-for-5 had another RBI single in the top of the eighth to score Baatz who went 2-for-4 in the game to give Asheville a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth inning.
Wohlwend pitched 6.2 gave up five hits and six walks but did not allow a run in receiving a no decision.
FloridaState (9-0) scored 10 runs on seven hits and took advantage of two Bulldog errors and five walks in the inning to pull the game out in its final at bat. Ohmed Danesh had a two-run homer in the inning.
Asheville will travel to Charleston, S.C. over the weekend to compete in a tournament hosted by the Citadel. The Bulldogs will play WrightState on Friday at .
