ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball dropped a 7-2 decision to Temple University on Saturday afternoon, as the Owls evened the weekend series with the Bulldogs with one game left to play.

The Bulldogs picked up a 6-5 walkoff victory on Friday afternoon.

With the setback the Blue & White fall to 5-10 on the season while the Owls improve to 3-7.

“If we expect to win games we’ve got to play better,” said Asheville head coach Tom Smith. “We’ve got to execute better pitches and take advantage of scoring opportunities. But we’re going to come out tomorrow and get after it.”

The Bulldogs posted two runs on five hits, with third baseman Robert McIntosh and centerfield Phillip Treadway each driving in a run. Tommy Houmard (0-2) got the start on the mound and was saddled with the loss after giving up three runs on four hits in two innings of work.

Temple’s leadoff batter and second baseman Jordan Queja was 2-for-3 at the plate, with two RBI. No. 2 hitter Nick Lustrino also drove in a pair of runs for the Owls, while first baseman Matt Elko and third baseman Derek Peterson collected two hits apiece.

Owl’s starter Eric Peterson picked up the win to improve to 2-0 on the season. Peterson allowed two runs on five hits with five strikeouts in five innings. Steve Visnic and Ryan Kuehn each pitched two innings in relief, combining to no-hit the Bulldogs over the final four innings.

The two teams will close out the series tomorrow at Greenwood Field, with first pitch set for 1 p.m. on the campus of the Bulldogs.
