SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team plated five runners in the top of the sixth inning against Wofford on Tuesday evening, en route to a 7-5 victory for the Bulldogs in non-conference action at King Field on the campus of the Terriers.

Freshman starter Corey Randall (1-1) picked up the victory, giving up two runs on three hits in six innings of work, as the Bulldogs improved to 7-10 on the season. Wofford rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth, but could not complete the comeback, falling to 7-10 overall.

“We got an outstanding start from Corey Randall tonight,” said Asheville skipper Tom Smith. “He (Randall) gave up two hits, with one being a misjudged pop up. Hunter Bryant had some great at bats, and seems to be getting into a groove now after a slow start. It was just a good team win.”

Bryant was 1-for-3 on the day, with two runs batted in, a run scored and a walk for the Blue & White. Rightfielder Todd Joyner, shortstop Eli Miller and third baseman Justin Woods each collected two hits on the day, while catcher Sam Turner posted two RBI for the Bulldogs.

Billy Creighton and Dillon Tabar closed out the game for Asheville, combining to give up three runs on three hits in three innings of work.

Third baseman Eric Brenk went 1-for-4 with two RBI for the Terriers. Starter Tanner Hawley allowed only one run on two hits before giving way to Connell Anderson in the sixth. Anderson (0-2) was credited with the loss in relief, giving up two runs on two hits in a third of an inning.

The game was originally scheduled for Feb. 17, but was moved to tonight due to inclement weather in the Spartanburg area.

The Bulldogs will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they return home to Greenwood Field to take on region-rival East Tennessee State. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
