Bulldogs to have 16 Players Playing in Summer Baseball Leagues

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville head coach Tom Smith has announced that 16 Bulldogs will be playing summer baseball in leagues throughout the country, including Alaska.

"It's important for our guys to keep playing and get more experience," stated Smith. "These summer leagues will be great for our players and give them some valuable experience."

Junior right-handed pitcher Ryan Dull will pitch in one of the top summer league's in the country in the Alaska Baseball League for the Mat Su Miners.

The Bulldogs will have four players a little closer to home in the Coastal Plains League which has team in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. They are outfielder Grant Gajdosz (Gastonia Grizzlies), outfielder Patrick Koontz (Thomasville Hi-Toms), pitcher/infielder Tommy Houmard (Wilmington Sharks) and incoming player Scott Robinson (Columbia Blowfish).

Three players will compete for the same team in the Great Lakes League in Ohio. Ian Graham, Matt Pate and Drew Spear will all play for the Hamilton Joe's, the defending Great Lakes League champion.

Pitchers Brian Connolly and Justin Hunt will be playing for the Kernersville Bulldogs in the Carolinas Virginia League.

Three players will be playing locally for the Asheville Redbirds in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League. The trio are pitchers Ethan Steible and Klint Davis plus catcher Sam Turner.  Also playing in the Southern League will be infielder Eli Miller (Morganton Aggies) and newcomer Stephen Crowe (Morganton Aggies).

Pitchers Elliot Criss and Nich Schavone will play for their American Legion teams this summer.
