MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – With the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th innings, Coastal Carolina’s Will Remillard hit a sacrifice fly to leftfield to drive in the game-winning run, lifting the Chanticleers to a 3-2 victory over UNC Asheville on Saturday afternoon in Big South Conference play.

The Bulldogs (15-33, 3-16 BSC) took an early lead in the contest, scoring two runs in the first on doubles by Robert McIntosh and Todd Joyner to go up 2-0. The Chanticleers (31-18, 15-5 BSC) answered with runs in the bottom of the first and second innings to tie the game at 2-2.

The next nine innings would be a pitcher’s duel, featuring Bulldogs Dean Roland and Billy Creighton versus Coastal’s Seth Lamando and Ryan Connolly. Roland threw nine complete innings, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out nine batters. Roland’s nine K’s were a season-high for the junior from West Chester, Pa.

Lamando got the start for the Chants and tossed 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with five K’s in the contest.

However, neither starter would be the pitcher of record.

Connolly (5-3) entered the game in the sixth inning and shutout the Blue & White over the next 5.2 innings, giving up only three hits and striking out seven. Creighton (2-4) pitched 1.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits and was saddled with the loss.

McIntosh went 3-for-5 at the plate for the Bulldogs, with a run batted in and a run scored. Joyner posted two hits in the contest to go along with a RBI.

As a team the Bulldogs tallied 10 hits in 11 innings, but the defense committed a season-worse six errors in the contest.

Coastal was led offensively by third baseman Chris Suseck, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Remillard was 1-for-4 on the day with the game-winning RBI for the Chants.

The two teams will close out the series tomorrow, with first pitch set for 10 a.m. at TicketReturn.com Field.
