ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Wells Fargo Bank of Asheville has contributed $50,000 to UNC Asheville. The funding will help support the Home Run Campaign for construction of a stadium at Greenwood Field.
The Athletics Department is in the midst of raising funds to expand and renovate the Bulldogs' home for baseball. The project is slated to cost approximately $2.5 million. Wells Fargo’s donation is the first major gift to the Home Run Campaign.
The announcement came today in a ceremony at Greenwood Field. The check was presented to UNC Asheville by Robby Russell, Asheville Market President, Rusty Edwards Business Banking Manager, Kim Plemmons Western North Carolina Sales and Marketing Manager and Ryan Baber Regional Marketing Director.
“Wells Fargo is pleased to make this grant to the Home Run Campaign and UNC Asheville,” said Russell. “This helps demonstrate our ongoing and deep commitment to North Carolina. We are honored to provide this level of support to expand and renovate the Greenwood Baseball Field. We’re responsible for being leaders to promote the long-term economic prosperity and quality of life for everyone in our communities. If they prosper, so do we.”
“We are overwhelmed by Wells Fargo’s generosity to our Home Run Campaign,” stated UNC Asheville Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone. “This investment is a huge step toward making the construction of our stadium a reality.”
“Wells Fargo has really stepped up to the plate for our baseball program and our community with their donation,” commented Bulldog head coach Tom Smith. “We are very appreciative of their support for this important project.”
The renovations for Greenwood Field include 500 seats for fans, press box with seating, dugouts, accessible restrooms for student-athletes and fans, concession areas, scoreboard upgrades, batting cages, and high-speed internet access for video streaming and television broadcasts.
