MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team dropped its series finale with Big South Conference foe Coastal Carolina on Sunday morning, falling 3-0 to the Chanticleers, who sweep the three-game set.


With the win the Chanticleers improve to 32-18 on the season with a 16-5 mark in the Big South. Asheville drops to 15-34 on the year and 3-17 in league play. The Bulldogs are also eliminated from the Big South Conference Championship with the three losses.


For the second game in a row the Blue & White out-hit the homestanding Chanticleers, scattering eight hits in the game while Coastal plated three runs on four hits.


Bulldog starter Dillon Tabar was credited with the loss to fall to 2-4 on the season. Tabar gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits in six innings of work, striking out three and walking two. Scott Robinson and Nick Schavone each pitched a relief inning, with neither giving up a hit over two innings.


Centerfielder Phillip Treadway went 2-for-4 at the plate and was the only Bulldog to reach base more than once.


Coastal’s Jacob May and Zach Remillard each had one run batted in on one hit, with Remillard hitting a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the third.


Tyler Poole picked up the win for the Chants, improving to 6-2 on the season. Poole pitching five shutout innings, allowing only six hits while striking out five Bulldogs. Austin Kerr pitched two innings of relief and then Patrick Corbett threw the final two, earning his second save of the season.


This weekend marked the first time the two teams had met since the 2011 season, when the Bulldogs took two games from the Chanticleers at Greenwood Field.


The Blue & White will close out the season next weekend, hosting Big South opponent Winthrop at Greenwood for a three-game series. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. on Thursday on the campus of the Bulldogs.
