MIDLAND, Texas. – Former UNC Asheville pitcher Ryan Dull has been promoted yet again by the Oakland A’s.

Dull was promoted from Oakland’s High A franchise in Stockton (Calif.) to the A’s Double A club, the Midland Rockhounds of the Texas League Monday night.

It marked the second promotion of the year for the former Bulldog. He began the year pitching for the Beloit Snappers of the Midwest League. Dull was an All-Star for Beloit. Ryan was the Snappers closer in the first half of the season. He was selected to the All-Star team after posting a league-leading 12 saves. Dull had a 2.10 ERA with 35 strikeouts in 25.2 innings of work.

He was called up to Stockton on June 18. While pitching for the Ports, Dull compiled a 1-3 record with a microscopic ERA of 1.59 and six saves. He struck out 24 batters in 16.2 innings of work.  For the year, Dull has struck out 66 hitters and walked just six in 48.1 innings pitched.

Dull was selected by the Athletics in the 32nd round of the 2012 draft. Dull completed his career at Asheville second all-time in strikeouts (238), fifth in wins (16), fourth in innings pitched (324.1), third in complete games (10) and second in games started (51).

“Not too many players get promoted twice in one season,” commented Bulldog coach Tom Smith. “Ryan’s had a great year, and is doing a nice job representing our program.”

Dull will be one of two former Bulldogs in the Texas League. Mike Shildt, who played and coached for UNC Asheville, is the manager of the Springfield Cardinals.  Shildt led Springfield to the Texas League championship last year.
