ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Kenny Bryant had three hits and drove in two runs as Presbyterian College held off UNC Asheville, 4-3 in Big South Conference baseball action at McCormick Field Thursday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (15-34, 7-18 BSC) lost for the 14th straight time. They were led at the plate by Danny Baatz, Jordan Lurie and Grant Gajdosz with two hits each. Asheville had a chance to win in the bottom of the ninth inning as it loaded the bases with two outs before Mike Vaughn flew out to deep center field to end the game.

Buck Mosteller (4-6) pitched 6.1 innings and earned the win for the Blue Hose. He allowed just four hits, two runs, one earned, striking out five and walking four.

Asheville opened the scoring in the first inning with an unearned run.  Baatz had a one-out single. He then stole his 14th base of the year. With two outs, Vaughn's reached on an error, allowing Baatz to put the Bulldogs in front, 1-0.

PC (22-32, 7-18 BSC) tied the game in the second when Tony Micklon hit a solo home run over the left-field wall to knot the game at 1-1.

The Blue Hose took the lead in the third with three runs. A sacrifice fly from Brad Zebedis plated John Wagner for a 2-1 PC lead. Bryant followed with a two-run homer for a 4-1 visitor advantage.

The home team got on the scoreboard in the sixth when they took advantage of wildness by Mosteller. He walked two hitters to put runners on first and second. Mosteller then hit Ian Graham and Catlin Carter on back-to-back pitches to get Asheville to within 4-2.

Blue Hose reliever Stewart Curry held the Bulldogs in check until the ninth inning. He got the first two outs of the ninth before singles from Lurie, Baatz and Gajdosz cut the lead to 4-3.

Chad White came on to relieve Curry. He walked Patrick Koontz on four pitches to load the bases. But the game ended when Vaughn's fly ball was caught just short of the center-field wall by Nathan Chong.

The teams will play the second game of their three-game series Friday at McCormick Field starting at 3 p.m.
