ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Former UNC Asheville pitcher Justin Schumer will be pitching in a familiar place Wednesday but he'll be wearing a different uniform.
Schumer is scheduled to start the opening game of a four-game series between the Augusta GreenJackets and the Asheville Tourists Wednesday night at McCormick Field starting at 7 p.m. Schumer, who played for the Bulldogs from 2007-2010, has been with Augusta this year of the South Atlantic League. They are a Class A franchise of the defending World Champions, San Francisco Giants.
The Charlotte native will bring a 2-2 record into the game with a 7.52 ERA. Schumer has missed much of the last month due to an oblique injury. He has struck out 11 in 26.1 innings of work.
