ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team snapped a seven-game losing skid by earning an 8-4 victory over NC Central on Tuesday afternoon, as the Bulldogs recorded a season-high in hits with 12 and a season-high in runs with eight.

With the victory the Blue & White improve to 2-7 while the Eagles fall to 2-8-1 on the season.

Four Bulldogs recorded multiple hit games with centerfielder Phillip Treadway going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a walk. Hunter Bryant, Erik Connolly and Robert McIntosh each posted two hits with Bryant driving in two runs for Asheville.

Junior right-handed pitcher Evan Joura (1-0) picked up the win in relief, giving up one hit over 3.1 innings and striking out two Eagles. Dean Roland earned his first save of the season, tossing three shutout innings while striking out five batters.

The win for the Bulldogs was the first since opening the season with a 7-4 decision over UNCG on Feb. 19.

NCCU’s Eric Kimber tallied two hits while driving in a run from the No. 2 spot in the lineup. Tyson Simpson and Carter Williamson each tallied an RBI, with Zack Lee drawing a pair of walks from the leadoff spot.

Jacob Russell was credited with the loss in a relief appearance to fall to 0-2 on the season. Russell allowed five runs on five hits in 1.1 innings for the Eagles.

Asheville took the early lead in the contest, scoring when Bryant doubled to center to plate McIntosh from third in the bottom of the first. NCCU responded with three runs in the top of the second to take the 3-1 lead.

Freshman Joe Tietjen hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth followed by a Sam Turner single that drove in a run to tie the game at 3-3. Asheville then scored two in the fifth and three in the sixth to push its run total to eight.

The Eagles were able to get a run in the sixth but could not plate any more.

The Bulldogs will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to Charlotte to take on the 49ers in a game scheduled for 3 p.m.
