CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte baseball team avenged an early season loss to the Bulldogs on Wednesday evening at Hayes Stadium, earning a 9-0 victory over UNC Asheville in a non-conference matchup.
The Bulldogs defeated the 49ers 5-1 on March 5, as Charlotte evens the season series with the win.
The 49ers scored nine runs on eight hits, scoring a run in the first, three runs in the third, another three in the fourth and two more in the seventh. Charlotte’s pitching staff limited Asheville to only four hits in the contest.
With the setback the Bulldogs fall to 8-16 while Charlotte improves to 5-16-1 with the win.
Brandon Vogler tossed six strong innings for the 49ers, allowing only three hits while striking out seven Bulldogs. Micah Wells was also strong for Charlotte, tossing two shutout innings and striking out four. Vogler improves to 1-0 on the season with the win.
Zack Wiseman was credited with the loss for the Bulldogs to fall to 0-2 on the year. Wiseman got the start and allowed three runs on one hit, walking five batters in 2.1 innings of work.
The Bulldogs will be back in action this weekend when they hit the road to take on Big South Conference foe Winthrop for a three game series beginning on Friday at 6 p.m.
