ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team hits the road this weekend for a Big South Conference series at defending Big South Conference regular-season champion Campbell starting Friday at 5 p.m. Saturday's contest will be at 1 p.m. with the series finale on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Bulldogs (11-23, 4-8) are in fourth place in the South Division in the latest BSC standings. Campbell is in second place in the North Division with an 8-4 worksheet and 22-12 overall mark.

Asheville went 1-1 in mid-week games as it rallied past Davidson 12-10 with three runs in the eighth inning on Tuesday. The Dogs fell to Southern Conference leader Western Carolina Wednesday in the first night game at Greenwood Field, 9-3.
The Bulldogs went 1-1 last week at home against Coastal Carolina. Asheville salvaged a game on Sunday when it edged the Chanticleers, 2-1 behind a complete game four-hitter from Corey Randall.
Freshman outfielder Tanner Bush is Asheville’s top hitter with a .361 average. Robert McIntosh has a .303 mark, followed by Phillip Treadway with a .291 mark. Pete Guys tops the club in home runs (4) and RBI’s (19).
The Bulldogs are expected to start freshman right-hander Joe Zayatz on Friday. Zayatz (1-4, 5.03 ERA) has pitched into the sixth inning in all four of his league starts. Senior right-hander Ethan Steible (0-3, 3.82 ERA) and sophomore right-hander Corey Randall (1-3, 3.44 ERA) are slated to start on Saturday and Sunday.
Eleven of Asheville’s last 15 games have been one-run affairs with the Bulldogs holding a 7-4 edge in those contests.
Asheville’s pitching has improved lately. The Bulldogs have allowed less than nine hits in 13 of the last 16 games.
Hunter Bryant has reached base in 17 straight games.
Pete Guys is tied for sixth in the Big South with four home runs. Two have been grand-slams.
Scott Robinson is sixth in the Big South in saves with five.
Kyle Towles is sixth in the league in doubles with 11.
Asheville has produced 64 doubles this season, second best in the BSC.
Robert McIntosh has an eight-game hitting streak. He is 19-of-39 (.487) with four doubles and six runs scored during that stretch.
Campbell leads the all-time series 29-15, including a three-game sweep at Asheville last season. The Bulldogs are 2-7 in Buies Creek in their last three trips here.
Corey Randall has 32 strikeouts in his last 24 innings worked.
Asheville returns home for four home games next week. The Bulldogs host USC Upstate Tuesday night at 6 p.m. and then a three-game series vs. Charleston Southern (April 17-19). The game with the Buccaneers on April 18th will start at 7 p.m. and broadcast on ESPN3.
