HIGH POINT, N.C. - The UNC Asheville baseball team pounded out 14 hits and starting pitcher Ryan Dull only gave up one run over eight innings to help lead the Bulldogs to a 7-1 victory over Big South Conference foe High Point on Saturday evening at Willard Stadium.

Dull allowed one run on four hits while striking out five Panthers to improve to 4-4 on the year. With the five K's Dull moves into third place all time at UNC Asheville with 224 for his career.

The Bulldogs improve to 21-23 on the year with a 10-10 mark in league play. The win also gives Asheville its first Big South series victory on the road since sweeping Presbyterian in 2010.

High Point falls to 23-23 overall and 8-9 in the conference.

Five different Bulldogs collected two or more hits in the contest, with first baseman Todd Joyner going 3-for-4 with two runs batted in. Senior third baseman Cody Buch was only 1-for-4, but also drove in a pair of runs for the Blue & White.

Senior right fielder Patrick Koontz hit his sixth home run of the season, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

For the second-straight game High Point took the first lead of the game in the bottom of the first inning as redshirt-junior Sean Wilson led off the Panther half of the frame with a home run over the left field wall. The home run was the first of Wilson's High Point career and the first leadoff home run for HPU this season.

Asheville tied the game in the top of the second inning when Koontz got a hold of an offering from Armstead and sent it into the Panther's Den in right-center field to make the score 1-1.

The game remained tied until the top of the fifth when the Bulldogs managed to score five runs with two outs to open a 6-1 lead. Buch and Joyner picked up the big hits on the inning as Buch had a two RBI single and Joyner followed with a two-RBI double down the right field line.

The Bulldogs pushed their lead to six, 7-1 in the top of the eighth inning with their sixth two-out run of the game as Jordan Lurie drove in Cody Adkins with a single to the right-center gap.

Asheville's 2-5 hitters combined to go 8-19 from the plate, scoring five of the Bulldogs' seven runs in the contest.

The two teams will conclude their series on Sunday at 1 p.m. Drew Spear will take the mound for the Bulldogs while Jacob Newberry will pitch for the Panthers.
