Asheville will play either Akron or Oklahoma State the next day.

"We're very excited about going to Puerto Rico and playing in this prestigious tournament," stated Asheville coach Eddie Biedenbach. "Tennessee will be a tough draw for us but there's not going to be any easy games in this tournament. This tournament will be a great experience for our players and our fans."

The Bulldogs played Tennessee in Knoxville last year and lost a close 72-68 decision in a game Asheville led for a majority of the game. The Volunteers finished with a 19-15 record last year and advanced to the second round of the NIT.

Asheville went 24-10 and won its second straight Big South Conference championship. The Bulldogs narrowly missed upsetting top-seeded Syracuse in the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling, 72-65.
