CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UNC Asheville freshman forward Will Weeks was named The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for games played Jan. 7-13, it was announced today by the Big South Conference office.
Weeks scored a career-high 27 points -- his first career 20-point game, and set a UNC Asheville single-game record for field goal percentage last Wednesday, as he was 11-of-12 (.917 percent) from the field at Gardner-Webb. He also recorded eight rebounds in the contest. In Asheville's home win over Radford on Saturday, Weeks contributed seven points, three rebounds and three steals. Weeks finished the two games 12-of-15 from the floor (.800) with 10 free throws and averaged 5.5 rebounds.
The Charlotte native and former Christ School standout is enjoying an excellent rookie year with the Bulldogs. He has started the past 10 games and is averaging 9.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, while shooting .633 from the floor.
Weeks and UNC Asheville travel to preseason Big South Conference favorite Charleston Southern Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. The Bulldogs are 8-9 on the season 2-1 in league play.
