BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Jeremy Atkinson scored 22 points to lead UNC Asheville to a convincing 78-61 Big South Conference road victory over Campbell Saturday afternoon at Gore Arena.

The Bulldogs (13-10, 7-2 BSC) won their fifth game in row as they led from start to finish. Asheville is now 32-4 in its last 36 BSC games. The Bulldogs are 13-3 in their last 16 games against league opponents on the road.

D.J. Cunningham added 17 points and six rebounds. He picked up his 500th career rebound in the first half and now has 502. Keith Hornsby finished with 14 points and eight assists. Trent Meyer chipped in 12 points, five assists and four steals.

The Camels (10-13, 5-4 BSC) were led by Darian Hooker's 18 points. Trey Freeman chipped in 16.

"We played very good basketball today," stated Asheville coach Eddie Biedenbach. "I thought we did a nice job offensively the whole day. Campbell made a run at us in the second half but we handled it and got the job done.

"This is a great win," added Biedenbach. "Campbell is tough to beat at home and they don't lose many games here. We're glad to get out of her with a victory.

"We're getting better. We're not where we need to be yet, but we're progressing nicely," Biedenbach also said. "I like the way everyone who played contributed both on offense and defense."

Asheville controlled the first half. The Bulldogs scored the first nine points of the game. Atkinson scored 13 points in the opening half as the visitors led 38-22 at halftime.

Asheville shot .542 (13-of-24) from the field in the opening half. The Bulldogs defense limited Campbell to just .308 (8-of-26) from the field. Asheville had 11 assists on 13 field goals.

Campbell came out of the break and forced some Bulldog turnovers and had the lead quickly down to eight at 44-38 on a Marvelle Harris dunk with 15:25 left.

Leading 50-40, the Bulldogs put the game away with nine straight points as Atkinson and Hornsby combined for all of the points as Asheville led 59-40.

Campbell could get no closer than 16 points the rest of the game.

The Bulldogs shot .558 (29-of-52) from the field and .700 (7-of-10) from the three-point line. The Blue & White had 22 assists on 29 baskets.

After starting the year 1-6, Asheville is now 12-4 in its last 16 games. The Bulldogs have won four of their last six road games.

UNC Asheville returns home on Wednesday night to face Big South Division rival Winthrop at Kimmel Arena starting 7 p.m.
