ASHEVILLE, N.C – The UNC Asheville men’s basketball team will travel next to the state of Rhode Island for the third and fourth rounds of the Preseason NIT.

Asheville faces Rhode Island Monday night (Nov. 25) starting at 7:30 p.m. and will battle East Carolina (Nov. 26) the next day at 5 p.m.  Both games will be played at the Rams Ryan Center.

The Bulldogs went 0-2 in the first two rounds as they lost at #4 Duke on Monday, 91-55 and then fell to defending MEAC champion Norfolk State on Tuesday, 80-78.

The Rams are 3-2 on the season and went 1-1 out at Arizona. Rhode Island downed Division II power Metro State, 66-63 on Monday but lost to the powerful fifth-ranked Wildcats last night, 87-59.

East Carolina also played at Duke this week. The Pirates downed Norfolk State in the first round, 78-76 before losing a close 83-74 decision to the Blue Devils. ECU is 4-1 on the year.

“We’ve got two more tough games,” commented first-year coach Nick McDevitt. “Rhode Island has a good team, and we saw how good East Carolina was down at Duke over the past few days.

“It will be exciting to play somewhere we’ve never been to before,” added McDevitt. “We’re looking forward to traveling to Rhode Island and playing these two games.”
