ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Former UNC Asheville men’s basketball coach Eddie Biedenbach was inducted into the Western North Carolina Hall of Fame last night in a ceremony at the Grove Park Inn.

Biedenbach was the only inductee this year at the Mountain Athletic Awards Banquet.  It will be a busy week of awards for the school’s all-time winningest head coach in hoops. He will be inducted into the North Carolina Hall of Fame Friday night in Raleigh.

"My time in Asheville was so special, so many friends and wonderful memories, and this really caps that time," said Biedenbach. “I’m really humbled to be put in this wonderful Hall of Fame.”

Biedenbach was the Bulldogs head coach from 1996-2013. He finished his 17-year career at Asheville as the Big South and school’s all-time winningest coach with 266 wins. The Bulldogs captured five Big South Conference regular-season titles, three Big South Tournament championships, advanced to the NCAA Tournament three times and went to post-season play four times during his tenure. The Pittsburgh native was named Big South Conference Coach of the Year three times (1997, 2002, and 2008).

He is the school’s and Big South’s all-time winningest coach with 266 victories. Biedenbach is also the league’s all-time winningest coach for conference wins (156) and tournament victories (20).
