ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville scored the first 10 points of the game and ended its four-game losing streak with a 74-62 Big South Conference victory over visiting Presbyterian College Wednesday evening at Kimmel Arena.


The Bulldogs (16-14, 10-5 BSC) were led by Keith Hornsby's game-high 16 points, while Jeremy Atkinson added 14 points and eight rebounds. Trent Meyer finished with 10 points and seven assists. 


Asheville shot a season-high .620 (31-of-50) from the field and .615 (8-of-13) from the three-point line.


The Blue Hose (8-22, 4-11 BSC) were led by Khalid Mutakabbir with 15 points. Eric Washington finished with 13 points and a game-high eight assists. Joshua Clyburn contributed 10 points.


The Bulldogs took command quickly. Asheville scored the first 10 points of the game to race to a 10-0 lead.


PC rallied and crept to 16-13 on a jumper from Ryan McTavish at the 12:23 mark.


But the Bulldogs scored on their next seven possessions to outscore the Blue Hose 16-3 and sprint to a 32-16 lead. Asheville had great balance in the run as seven different players scored for the Blue & White.


The Bulldogs settled for a 39-22 halftime lead. Asheville shot a season-best .680 (17-of-25) from the field in the opening half.  PC shot .304 (7-of-23) from the field.


Atkinson started the second half with a long trey to give the Bulldogs their biggest lead at 42-22. The Blue Hose rallied and crept to 61-52 on a 3-pointer from Mutakabbir at the five-minute mark.


But the Bulldogs responded with five quick points as Sam Hughes scored on a lay-up. He then made a steal and fed Hornsby who knocked down a 3-pointer for a 66-52 lead.


The visitors could get no closer than the final margin.


Hornsby, who missed the last two games with a shoulder injury, finished 4-for-4 from the three-point line.


All nine players who played for the Bulldogs scored in the game, including senior Josh Seligson who scored on a fast-break lay-up for the final points of the game for Asheville.


Both teams will finish the regular season Saturday afternoon. UNC Asheville finishes up at Winthrop in a game that be broadcast on ESPN3 starting at 4 p.m. Presbyterian College travels to Gardner-Webb and will take on the Runnin' Bulldogs starting at 5 p.m.
