PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Jaron Lane scored nine points in the first half and J.P. Primm and Quinard Jackson added eight points each as UNC Asheville leads top-seeded Syracuse 34-30 at halftime in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at the Consol Energy Center.
The Bulldogs knocked down five 3-pointers in the first half and went 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Asheville biggest lead was 29-22 late in the first half before setting for the four-point margin.
The 16th-seeded Bulldogs, trying to spring the biggest upset in NCAA history, shot 50 percent (11-of-22) from the field in the first half. Syracuse (31-2) shot .387 (12-of-31) from the field in the opening half and made just one trey (1-of-13).
Asheville does have some series foul trouble as Jackson has three fouls. Chris Stephenson, Lane and Primm all have two fouls each.
Syracuse led 22-21 on a Dian Waiters dunk at the 7:46 mark. The Bulldogs went on an 8-0 run to sprint to a 29-22 lead.
