ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Keith Hornsby scored 18 points to lead UNC Asheville to a 91-60 exhibition victory over Brevard College Monday night at Kimmel Arena.

Hornsby led a balanced attack that featured five players in double figures for the Bulldogs. D.J. Cunningham added 16 points and 10 rebounds in his first action in two seasons. He red-shirted last year with a knee injury. Jeremy Atkinson contributed 16 points, while Jon Nwwannunu and freshman Will Weeks had 11 points each.

Brevard was led by Gerel Simmons with 18 points. Miles Leather finished with 13 points.

The taller Bulldogs held a commanding edge on the boards with a 57-27 advantage. Asheville outscored the Tornados 51-30 in the paint.

"We had good balance in our scoring tonight and played hard for the most part," stated Bulldog coach Eddie Biedenbach. "However, we had way too many turnovers (18) and gave up some uncontested shots that we should have given up.  We also took too many quick shots but overall for an exhibition game we did a good job."

Hornsby collected seven rebounds, dished out six assists and had two of Asheville's 15 steals.

The Bulldogs lost to Brevard three years ago in an exhibition game, 73-69. Asheville quickly took charge of this contest.

Asheville hit three of its first four 3-pointers to race to a 14-6 lead in the first five minutes of the game and then got the ball inside over the next 10 minutes to build on the lead. The Bulldogs led 33-12 on a Weeks' three-point play at the 8:50 mark.

Asheville led by as much as 23 before settling for a 51-31 halftime lead.

Atkinson had 11 points in the opening half as the Bulldogs out-rebounded the visitors 29-10.

In the second half, Brevard played Asheville even for the first eight minutes before Hornsby scored seven straight points to get the lead up to 26 at 73-47.
