ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's basketball team returns home briefly for one game on Sunday before embarking on another three-game road trip. The Bulldogs host Bluefield College at Kimmel Arena on Sunday starting at 2 p.m.

Sunday's game will be broadcast locally on WPEK Radio (880-AM) with the pre-game show starting at 1:30 p.m. A video-stream of Sunday's game will be available at www.uncabulldogs under the multimedia tag.

The Bulldogs (5-7) hope to build on the momentum of their road trip prior to Christmas. Asheville knocked off Northeastern of the Colonial Conference, 79-73 on Dec. 18 and then stunned Big East foe St. John's 72-65 on Dec. 21. The Bulldogs rallied from a 17-point first-half deficit in the victory at St. John's. Jeremy Atkinson scored a career-high 31 points in the win.

After Sunday's home game, Asheville is back on the road for three more games. The Bulldogs play at Charlotte on Wednesday (Jan. 2) night before opening Big South Conference play at Liberty (Jan. 5) and Gardner-Webb (Jan. 9).

Veteran head coach Eddie Biedenbach was pleased with the road wins but knows his team needs be focused on a dangerous Bluefield squad that is 6-6 on the season.

"We better be ready to play on Sunday," declared Biedenbach. "Last year, our first game after the holidays was a disappointing loss at Western Carolina. Our guys hopefully learned from that game and will be ready to go against Bluefield.

"Bluefield has a good team and has guys that can score," added Biedenbach. "They've played exhibition games against Marshall and a few other teams, so they'll be ready to play UNC Asheville.

"We had some great results on the road last week" Biedenbach also said. "But we've still have plenty of improving to do, and hopefully we'll improve Sunday against Bluefield."

The Rams are coached by former Virginia star Richard Morgan. They're led by center Byron Carpenter who is averaging 26 points per game and scored 37 in Bluefield's last game on Dec. 15 when the Rams lost at Lynchburg College, 86-79.

The teams have met once and that was in the 2009-10 season at Justice Center with Asheville winning, 97-74.

Jeremy Atkinson continues to lead the Bulldogs in scoring with an 18.8 average. Sophomore guard Keith Hornsby has scored in double figures in five straight games, including a 26-point explosion at Ohio State on Dec. 15, is averaging 13.7 points per game.
